What We Do

Our Mission

The Mental Health Kidney Foundation (MHKF) is dedicated to improving the mental health and emotional well-being of individuals affected by kidney disease. We achieve this by providing accessible, kidney-informed mental health care; conducting public education and awareness campaigns; supporting research; and offering direct services.

We believe emotional well-being is essential to every stage of kidney care. From diagnosis to dialysis to transplant, mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, medical trauma, and grief impact how patients heal, connect, and engage in their treatment. That’s why we’re committed to delivering accessible, culturally competent, and kidney-informed mental health care

Our Mind to Thrive initiative is a first-of-its-kind mental health program in the United States designed to support adults living with kidney disease by integrating evidence-based and kidney-informed mental health services into their kidney care. The pilot, launching in California includes individual therapy, therapist-led support groups, workshops, wellness events, and community outreach.
