At MHFK, we're committed to supporting the mental health of people living with kidney disease. We provide free therapy from professionals who understand kidney-related challenges, along with support groups led by specialized therapists. We also offer educational workshops and resources tailored to the unique emotional and mental health needs of kidney patients.
Our programs are grounded in lived experience, clinical knowledge, and a deep understanding of how kidney health and mental wellness are connected.
We offer virtual mental health therapy built around the real experiences of people living with kidney disease. Whether you're managing chronic kidney disease, navigating dialysis, preparing for a transplant, or coping with a rare kidney condition, our licensed therapists understand the mental and emotional challenges and walk alongside you. We’re here to help you work through fear, anxiety, depression, grief, and medical trauma in a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported.
MHFK’s programs are built around the real-life experiences of kidney patients and their families. From support groups led by kidney-informed therapists to community workshops that focus on coping strategies, relationships, and self-care, every service is created to meet the emotional and psychological needs of the kidney community.
We provide specialized training for licensed therapists to deepen and strengthen their understanding of the emotional and psychological impact of kidney disease. Our training is designed to equip clinicians with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver compassionate, kidney-informed care.
Join our support groups to connect with others who understand what you're going through. Share your experiences, learn from others, and find strength in a supportive community that truly gets the challenges of living with kidney disease.
Online therapy is provided through secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. After you sign up, you’ll receive a private video link to your video session. You can join using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. If needed, we can help you get set up and walk you through the process. All you need is a stable internet connection and a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable talking.
I don’t believe therapy is a long-term approach because our time together is focused on teaching you strategies and skills to help you successfully cope and manage your challenges. Therapy does not have a set time length because people learn at different rates and some have more to learn than others. It may be a 4-6 weeks and for others, it may be a 3-6 months before termination from therapy is appropriate. One of my goals as your therapist is to help you graduate successfully from treatment.
My working hours are Monday through Friday starting at 8 am – 5 pm PST. I will not be in the office on the following holidays: Thanksgiving Day and the day after; Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve. You will receive at least a 2 week notice when I have a planned vacation.
I pull from a variety evidence-based techniques and strategies that include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), CBT, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). These interventions have been shown to help with a variety of mental health challenges. Using my clinical judgment and depending on your unique needs, I utilize interventions that you will benefit from as part of your treatment plan.
MHFK is not a crisis center and our therapists do not provide emergency or after-hours services. If you are in crisis or need immediate help, please call 911, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988, go to your local emergency room, or contact the Crisis Line at 800-576-7764. Your safety and well-being matter, and we want to make sure you get the right kind of support when you need it most.
